I got a sneak peek at GoPro’s brand new camera, GoPro Hero4 Session, this week. I’ve had a super busy week but I wanted to do an unboxing video so I had to wait a couple of days to open it!

GoPro Hero4 Session
The GoPro Hero4 Session is so tiny and cute. It reminds me of an eyeball. I played with it a bunch last night to figure out how it worked, and I can’t wait to throw it in the pool with my kids!
A couple of surprising things that delight me about the Hero4 Session:
It’s waterproof itself. It doesn’t come with waterproof housing, the Session just IS waterproof. I was looking for a page in the quick start guide that says “NO REALLY – IT’S WATERPROOF” because it just seems weird to throw it in the water naked.
Off/on/record is the same button. Why does this delight me? Because it saves the battery all by itself. It starts up quickly and starts recording right away, and then it turns off when you stop recording. I use my GoPros to shoot family stuff, so it’s in and out of my purse, and it’s on and off. I love that with the Session, the question of whether the camera is on in my purse and draining the battery is one less thing I have to think about.
It mounts to all the other GoPro mounts. I don’t have to buy any special mounts to make the Hero4 Session work for me. It works with all my GoPro mounts.
Another thing I am impressed with is how easy it is to connect my phone to it via WiFi. It’s been a while since I had a brand new GoPro, and the GoPro iPhone app has been updated several times since then (so maybe this isn’t new), but I liked how it walked me through the process of pairing the camera with the phone.
I haven’t used the Hero4 Session extensively yet, so I can’t say that this is a full review. But so far, I like it a lot.
The Session will be available to the public on July 12, 2015, at a retail price of $399 (USD).
Disclaimer: GoPro did send me the GoPro Hero4 Session Reviewer’s Box as a courtesy – I guess because I’m awesome. 🙂 No really, my opinions of GoPro and the Hero4 Session are not and will not be affected by any free merchandise provided by GoPro.
