Earlier this summer, I posted a YouTube video explaining this idea my family and I had been thinking about: Epic Summer of Awesome.

Epic Summer of Awesome
We live in Upstate New York, and more specifically, we live in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of the state. There is absolutely no shortage of fun things to do as a family.
So Epic Summer of Awesome is this idea that we don’t have to go far or spend tons of money to do some really awesome stuff in our “neck of the woods”. That mentality is not exclusive to those of us who are lucky enough to live in the great state of New York. You and your family can have an epic summer of awesome too.
We made a list of a few things we wanted to do this summer. Then, when we made that list, they all seemed totally doable:
- Visit April the Giraffe at Baby Taj at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, NY
- See Boldt Castle in the Thousand Islands
- Go to our Camp in the Adirondack Mountains
- Climb up the gorge at Watkins Glen State Park in Watkins Glen, NY
- See the huge waterfall at Toughannic State Park in Trumansburg, NY
- Make our annual trip to Seabreeze Amusement park
However, when we made that list, we didn’t anticipate that we’d be putting our house on the market and moving to another house this summer.
We did two things on that list so far. TWO! OUT OF SIX!
We had a great time in the Adirondacks, and I’m almost done editing our video, but here’s a sneak peek:
In all fairness, we can do pretty much any of those things through the fall… it’s not like we HAVE to do them in the summer.
So with getting our house on the market and ready to be sold plus all the packing & purging we’re doing for our move out to the country. Our Epic Summer of Awesome has officially turned into an Epic Summer of Chaos.
About That Big Move
We live in an adorable Dutch Colonial (revival, technically) in a quaint village. We bought this house back in 2008 for a crazy low price because it needed a crazy amount of work done to it. Sometime soon, I’ll post a before and after of our DIY kitchen remodel.
There are a lot of cute features to love about our first home, but we need MORE SPACE. Breathing room, if you will.
So I’ve had my eye on the real estate listings for the past… oh I don’t know… 4 years or so. Actually, we had hoped to build a home at one point. (Truthfully, we’d hoped to have the company I used to work for build our next home. But they eliminated my position, so, nah).
In June, we found a house that met my (pretty much) outrageous expectations. And now we are awaiting an updated closing date, then it’s ours! All 5 acres and 4 bedrooms in the country.
At this point, I have either donated or dumpstered (not a word, but I like it) as many things as I have packed. Purging is one of my favorite hobbies and having listened to the audio version of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up I think I’m doing really well in that area.
My dining room has become the packing staging area so that’s fun.
Not really.
But for real though–we are really pumped about our new (to us) house. More space, no neighbors.
If you follow me on Instagram, I’m sure I’ll be providing a play-by-play of the whole moving+new house situation. Follow me on Instagram now so you don’t miss out.
Blog & YouTube Channel Update
I haven’t uploaded a YouTube video in a month!
I haven’t been slacking though–I did a free training on 10 GoPro Beginner Tips, Tricks, and Hacks that turned out really well and also launched a brand new program for total GoPro newbies too.
It has been good to take a break from blogging and creating YouTube videos to think about things. I’m looking forward to picking up a regular schedule again and expanding my “how to GoPro” niche to include more household tech and family topics as well as behind-the-scenes blog/biz stuff.
You’re witnessing that niching-out right now, in fact, because I don’t usually write straight-up blog posts about the personal side of VidProMom. More to come!
